THE LETTER "T": The circled "T" indicated the presence of tritium, a low-emission radioactive substance. This distinguishing mark was a specific requirement of the British Ministry of Defence for watches intended for military use, to inform wearers of the composition of the luminescent material used. Of course, we do not use tritium or any other radioactive materials!
UNDERLINE: The dash on the dial is nothing more than a small horizontal line that was used in the 1960s as an internal laboratory indication to distinguish the type of radioactive luminescent material used on the hour markers.
MAXI DIAL: Vintage watch enthusiasts have begun using the term “Maxi Dial” to describe certain vintage watches that feature larger-than-normal luminescent hour markers.
DOME PLEXIGLASS: The domed acrylic plexiglass replicates the glass of 1950s dive watches and gives the vintage look of the most iconic vintage dive watches.
MILITARY HANDS: The UNDERLINE MILSUB features the signature spear-shaped hands of military watches.
BLACK UNIDIRECTIONAL BEZEL: The unidirectional aluminum bezel is fully graduated as on models intended for the military.
NATO STRAP: The NATO strap was introduced as British Ministry of Defence Standard 66-15 in 1973. It was initially called the "G10 strap" because service members had to fill out a form called G1098 to apply for it.
ENGRAVED CASEBACK AND VINTAGE CASE: The 39mm 904L stainless steel case mimics the vintage dimensions of early diving watches, a good compromise between comfort and readability. The Underline logo is engraved on the caseback.
ENGRAVED CROWN: The screw-down winding crown is engraved with the Underline logo and ensures a secure closure.
MOVEMENT NH35A: TMI - Seiko automatic movement - 24 jewels, with a power reserve of up to 41 hours. Frequency: 21,600 bph. Accuracy: -20~+40 seconds per day. The hack-second function (or stop-second) allows for precise time setting.
